Jesus is Essential
Matthew 13:10–12: And the disciples came and said to Him, “Why do You speak to them in parables?” He answered and said to them, “Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given. For whoever has, to him more will be given, and he will have abundance; but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him.
The “secrets” of the kingdom now reveal that an entire Age would intervene between Israel’s rejection of the King and her later acceptance of Him. Jesus spoke in parables to hide the truth from unbelievers. The secrets of the kingdom would be given to the disciples, but would be hidden from the religious leaders who rejected Him (13:11b, but not to them).
In fact, even what they had previously known would no longer be clear to them (v. 12). Jesus’ parabolic instruction thus carried with it a judgmental aspect. By using parables in public, Jesus could preach to as many individuals as before, but He could then draw the disciples aside and explain to them fully the meaning of His words. 1
Walking with Jesus
Jesus has opened your heart and revealed His truth. You know Him, therefore you understand the words He speaks from His Word. Be thankful. The unbeliever can read those same words and have no clue. Thank God every day for saving you!
From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” Matthew 4:17
Because I know You, there are no secrets between us, You speak the truth.
