Jesus is Essential
Matthew 11:20–24: Then He began to rebuke the cities in which most of His mighty works had been done, because they did not repent: “Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! For if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. But I say to you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon in the day of judgment than for you. And you, Capernaum, who are exalted to heaven, will be brought down to Hades; for if the mighty works which were done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. But I say to you that it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment than for you.”
What a privilege was theirs in having the headquarters of the Lord Jesus in their city! But they rejected Him.
The Lord Jesus is saying that if the wicked city of Sodom had witnessed the miracles that He had performed in Capernaum, they would have turned from their wickedness and would not have merited the judgment that came upon them. 1
Walking with Jesus
Government leaders and church leaders are accountable to God for rejecting all the light of the gospel that has been bestowed upon the nation. So is every person.
I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High. Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol, To the lowest depths of the Pit. Isaiah 14:14–15
To reject the Word of God is to accept the coming judgement.
Praying
Lord, thank You for all the warnings. We are without excuse.
