Romans 1:25: Who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.

“Who exchanged the true God for the lie.” The suggestion is that they turned from God to Satan, the author of the lie and the father of idolatry. This is idolatry which led to the lowest depths of moral degradation. 1

The truth of God is not only the truth concerning God but also God’s truth concerning all things, including mankind. This truth is that people are creatures of God and can find true fulfillment only in worshiping and obediently serving God the Creator. A lie (lit., “the lie”) on the other hand says that the creature—angelic or human —can exist independent of God, self-sufficient, self-directing, and self-fulfilling. Mankind made himself his god in place of the true God. 2

Application

  • When you believe the gossip of another, you have exchanged the truth for a lie.
  • On a blank piece of paper, draw a picture of a heart. Allow that heart to represent your heart towards God. Shade in the area of the heart that is actually surrendered to Him. What will it take for God to have all of your heart?

Prayer

Lord, help me to be more diligent to hide Your Word (the Truth) in my heart.
