Revelation 3:15: I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot.
Jesus and His Word
The Laodicean church was neither hot nor cold—just lukewarm. Between those positions of hot and cold, you have this lukewarm state. I would say that this is a picture of many, many churches today. That is a condition that is impossible. This is the thing that makes the Lord Jesus sick. He very frankly says that He will spew them out of His mouth. 1
Jesus and His Ways
- Jesus, make me red hot for You. Please burn away all the impurities from my life. I want to serve You wholeheartedly. – “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.” Matthew 6:24
- Jesus, I want to live the exchanged life. All of You, none of me. I am all Yours, from this day forward. – “For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? What will a man give in exchange for his soul?” Matthew 16:26
- Jesus, I want to serve You with an eternal purpose. An earthly dividend means nothing. Thank You for teaching me to do the things that matter most to You. I am looking forward to Your comforting love in heaven. – “But Abraham said, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted and you are tormented.” Luke 16:25
