Romans 1:13: Now I do not want you to be unaware, brethren, that I often planned to come to you (but was hindered until now), that I might have some fruit among you also, just as among the other Gentiles.

He was hindered from coming to them, although he longed to come. Many of these folk were his converts, as he had led them to Christ when he had met them in different parts of the Roman Empire. His desire to have “fruit among you” probably does not refer to soul winning, but to the fruit of the Spirit in the lives of believers (see Gal. 5:22–23). 1

Another purpose for Paul’s visit to Rome—a visit often planned but until now prevented—was evangelism. Paul’s mention of having a “harvest” among them is clearly a statement of his desire to preach the gospel in Rome, not only to the believers but also to unbelievers. 2

Application

  • When making travel plans, do you ever consider God’s plan for you on the trip?
  • Have you realized, that having faith means you must accept God’s timing over your own good and Godly intentions? How hard is it for you to wait upon the Lord?

Prayer

Lord, help me to be patience to do Your will, Your way.
