Psalm 34:13–14: Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking deceit. Depart from evil and do good; Seek peace and pursue it.

Experiencing Jesus in the Psalms

Depart from evil. Go away from it. Set a distance between yourself and temptation. And do good. Be practical, active, energetic, persevering in good. He who does good is sure to avoid evil. Seek peace. Not merely prefer it, but with zeal and care endeavor to promote it. Peace with God, with your own heart, with your fellow-men, search after this as the merchant after a precious pearl. And pursue it. Hunt after it, chase it with eager desire. The peace which you thus promote will be returned into your own heart, and be an infinite spring of comfort to you. 1

Living the Transformed Life

I said, “I will guard my ways, Lest I sin with my tongue; I will restrain my mouth with a muzzle, While the wicked are before me.” Psalm 39:1

  • Ask Jesus to move you heart, before you move your tongue.
  • Ask Jesus to forgive your inappropriate words and inappropriate behavior.
  • Ask Jesus to show you if you need to apologize to another that you have offended with your careless words, or selfish behavior.

When the tongue is restrained, the words are without regret. – TWEET IT

Praise and Prayer

Thank You, Father, for giving us Jesus, who teaches us how to speak lovingly to others. Dear Jesus, may my words be seasoned with Your grace and used wisely.
