Proverbs 31:2–3: What, my son? And what, son of my womb? And what, son of my vows? Do not give your strength to women, Nor your ways to that which destroys kings.

Insight

Lemuel’s mother addressed her son. Her vows may mean that she made a vow, as Hannah did, before his conception or afterward. Either way she wanted him to know that he was special to her. She warned him that adultery has a debilitating effect on one’s mind and body (cf. Solomon warned against adultery in Prov. 2:16–19). 1

Application

But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. 2 Timothy 3:14–15

The job of every parent and grandparent is to continue to teach and live out the Scriptures before the children as they are growing up. How do you do this? You pray for them every day. You communicate biblical truth. You serve in the children’s ministry and youth groups. You sit with them in church. You buy them Christian books and resources. You talk with them and you listen to them. You spend time together. You teach them how to talk with God. You show them how to have compassion on the lost.

You tell them that God has a special plan for their life. You encourage them often.

Motivation

For she has cast down many wounded, and all who were slain by her were strong men. Proverbs 7:26

Never measure your strength by putting yourself in a weak situation. – TWEET IT

Prayer

Father, it is Your power I need everyday to keep me from wandering away.
