Proverbs 29:27: An unjust man is an abomination to the righteous, and he who is upright in the way is an abomination to the wicked.

Insight

The antagonism existing between the righteous and the wicked is given in surprisingly graphic terms. Detest, in both lines of the verse, is a strong verb that may be translated “to consider abominable or detestable, to abhor.” It is used of God’s attitude toward idolatry and of the sacrifice of children and of other abominable and unclean acts. The righteous are so concerned for honesty that they, like God, hate what is dishonest. And the distaste of the wicked for the upright reveals their perverse values. All of Proverbs, of course, contrasts the righteous and the wicked. 1

Application

You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in Your word. Depart from me, you evildoers, for I will keep the commandments of my God! Uphold me according to Your word, that I may live; And do not let me be ashamed of my hope. Hold me up, and I shall be safe, and I shall observe Your statutes continually. Psalm 119:114–117

To be upright, is to be in His Word, and for His Word to be in you. What effort are you making on a daily basis to capture His Word within your heart? Can you say that: “He is holding you up, and you are safe?” What sin do you need to flee from, by His grace?

Motivation

The world cannot hate you, but it hates Me because I testify of it that its works are evil. John 7:7

Fleeing from evil is very possible if you flee into His holy presence with full humility. – TWEET IT

Prayer

Father, forgive me for standing in the dark. Thank You for drawing me into Your light.
