Proverbs 27:23–27: Be diligent to know the state of your flocks, and attend to your herds; For riches are not forever, nor does a crown endure to all generations. When the hay is removed, and the tender grass shows itself, and the herbs of the mountains are gathered in, the lambs will provide your clothing, and the goats the price of a field; You shall have enough goats’ milk for your food, for the food of your household, and the nourishment of your maidservants.
Insight
A farmer should care for his flocks and herds because they are a better investment than many things. Flocks and herds multiply through their offspring, but money when it is spent is gone and being a king (having a crown) does not last. Hay and grass provide food for livestock, which in turn supply people’s needs for clothing (lambs’ wool), money (from selling goats), and milk and food for one’s family and servants. It is important to care for one’s resources, and to recognize God’s provisions. 1
Application
God has given each of us time, talent, and treasures. We are accountable to Him for our stewardship of each of these. Do you waste to much time on social media? Do you use your talent only in your paid job but not serving as a volunteer at church? Is your money all about the things you want to buy, or do you tithe (give 10%) to the Lord first, thanking Him for your job and the talent to do your job?
Motivation
Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion but willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly. 1 Peter 5:2
Blessed diligence is the highway to blessed fruitfulness. – TWEET IT
Prayer
Father, thank You for supplying Your abundant grace to become more diligent.
