Proverbs 27:15–16: A continual dripping on a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike; Whoever restrains her restrains the wind, and grasps oil with his right hand.

Insight

Dripping water pictures the irritating nature of a quarrelsome wife. Like water dripping on a rainy day, she is annoying and never stops quarreling. She is as impossible to restrain as the wind. Trying to constrain her contentious spirit is as impossible as trying to pick up a handful of oil. She is both unsteady and slippery. 1

Application

Proverbs 31:25–27:

Strength and honor are her clothing; She shall rejoice in time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and on her tongue is the law of kindness.

She watches over the ways of her household, and does not eat the bread of idleness.

The wisdom of this proverb teaches a women how to excel as a wife. There is always a personal choice that must be made that will determine the atmosphere of the home.

Motivation

As water wears away stones, and as torrents wash away the soil of the earth; So You destroy the hope of man. Job 14:19
