Proverbs 27:1: Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth.

Insight

There is a philosophy of procrastination that is very familiar to all of us. It puts off until tomorrow what could be done today. It is not that there is no intention of doing the thing in question. It is just put off. We have another proverb that puts it very bluntly. “The way to hell is paved with good intentions.” The Word of God puts it likes this: “… Today if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts” (Heb. 4:7). Isaiah writes, “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord …” (Isa. 1:18). The tendency of man is to want to wait for another time. Today is always the day of salvation. You do not know what tomorrow will bring. 1

Application

Jesus has a stopwatch on our lives. He explains life from a heavenly point of view in Luke 12:19–20:

And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry.” ’ But God said, ‘Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; whose will those things be which you have provided?’

If Jesus said that your number was up today, would you be ready to go? Have you been delaying your obedience towards the Words and will of God? Is your waiting to obey causing you to become weak in faith? Will you make today that acceptable day to make a new change to follow Jesus without delay?

Motivation

Whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. James 4:14

Value each day, while you still have the capacity to make a difference. – TWEET IT

Prayer

Father, please forgive my delay. Make me more known for my obedience.
