Proverbs 22:20–21: Have I not written to you excellent things of counsels and knowledge, that I may make you know the certainty of the words of truth, that you may answer words of truth to those who send to you?

Insight

But even the words of wisdom are powerless unless they are applied to us personally. Each person should separate himself from other people and be alone with God, under the clear, searching light of his Word. Let us not forget that the great purpose of this revelation is that we may be sure about eternal things. Our confidence in the sure foundations of the Christian faith should not be shaken. This does not mean that we still need to know more in order to have faith. For we should always be humble enough to depend on God about what we do not know. 1

Application

Paul explained the excellence of the Word of God in 2 Timothy 3:16–17:

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

  1. What important doctrine do you cling to from the Word of God?
  2. How has the Word of God recently corrected you?
  3. How has the Word of God taught you to live a righteous life?
  4. How has the Word of God caused your life to experience greater maturity?

Motivation

The words of the Lord are pure words, Like silver tried in a furnace of earth. Psalm 12:6

Without your Word, I would be lost in a very lost world. – TWEET IT

Prayer

Father, I am praying now for a hunger and thirst for Your Word.
