Proverbs 20:18: Plans are established by counsel; By wise counsel wage war.

Insight

Rashness and unthinking precipitation are to be deplored. Before beginning what may not readily be ended, it is well to count the cost, and to counsel with some who are known to be wise and prudent. 1

Application

Jesus taught about the need for wise counsel before entering the battle in Luke 14:31–32 Or what king, going to make war against another king, does not sit down first and consider whether he is able with ten thousand to meet him who comes against him with twenty thousand? Or else, while the other is still a great way off, he sends a delegation and asks conditions of peace.

We are also in a daily battle and we need to ask for His help everyday. Have you considered your opposition? You may be outnumbered in many ways, but Jesus supplies the victory regardless of your weaknesses. Actually, it is when our opposition is greater that we will depend upon Him for everything we need. Ask Him now for His counsel and seek others who walk in the Spirit for their timely and godly advice.

Motivation

Without counsel, plans go awry, but in the multitude of counselors they are established. Proverbs 15:22

Prayer

Father, thank You for surrounding me with several wise counselors.
