Proverbs 19:5: A false witness will not go unpunished, and he who speaks lies will not escape.
Insight
If a truthful witness saves lives (14:25), a false witness destroys them. This is an offense against the Ten Commandments. The habit of lying, allowing an untruth to exist under the cover of a good motive, grows and results in more and more evil. So careful attention to truth is vital in Christian education. The boundary line must never be trifled with. Not even a child can cross it with impunity. A child must never be allowed to play with a falsehood. 1
Application
In Daniel 6:24, the Lord reveals to us how much He despises liars. “And the king gave the command, and they brought those men who had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions…”
What lie, in your life, needs to be brought into the light? What lies have you told about someone else? Repeating something you heard about someone else, only to find out that the information was not entirely true is known as a slanderous lie? Will you take responsibility and go back to those who you sowed the seeds of a lie and ask for forgiveness and make things right? Will you humble yourself before the one you slandered and personally ask for forgiveness?
Motivation
But if you have bitter envy and self-seeking in your hearts, do not boast and lie against the truth. James 3:14
If Jesus is the truth, why would you ever want to be associated with a lie? – TWEET IT
Prayer
Father, please keep a lock on my lips, so I only speak what is true and necessary.
