Proverbs 18:4: The words of a man’s mouth are deep waters; The wellspring of wisdom is a flowing brook.

Insight

Every true believer in the Lord Jesus Christ is indwelt by the Holy Spirit. The Lord Jesus stood in the temple when the water was poured out at the time of the Feast of Tabernacles and said, “… If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the Scripture hath said, out of his belly [inmost being] shall flow rivers of living water” (John 7:37–38). Then John interprets this for us. “(But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)” (John 7:39). The child of God should learn to speak in the power of the Holy Spirit. This is so important in presenting the Word of God and talking about the things of God. 1

Application

Paul explains his command with an illustration in Ephesians 5:18 “And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit.”

We should be intoxicated with the Holy Spirit. We should take in an overflowing volume of His Holy Spirit. We should always be under the influence of God. When was the last time you had this infilling experience with the Holy Spirit? Ask and you will be filled like rivers of flowing water. But you must ask, believe, and receive. Do it now!
