Proverbs 16:31: The silver-haired head is a crown of glory, if it is found in the way of righteousness.

Insight

Here we see that gray hair is an old man’s glory and his claim for respect. The elders are among those who should be honored. To despise them is sinful and will be severely punished. Wisdom and experience are rightly attributed to them.

“There is not on earth a more venerable and delightful spectacle than that of an aged pilgrim walking with God. Oh, the saint of God, who in approaching the close of his earthly pilgrimage is drawing near to what has been the goal of his hopes and desires; who, while outwardly decaying, is inwardly maturing for heaven; in whom every symptom of coming death is but a symptom of approaching life. ’Lord, now let thou thy servant depart in peace, for mine eyes have seen thy salvation’ ” 1

Application

Luke 1:5–6 “A certain priest named Zacharias, and His wife named Elizabeth, and they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.”

Can you consider this as the new pursuit for your marriage? Just think of the simplicity and the profoundness of being righteous, walking uprightly, and living obediently. By God’s grace, if every Christian marriage would adopt this, there would be a radical transformation in most households.

Motivation

“This woman was a widow of about eighty-four years, who did not depart from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day.” Luke 2:37
