Proverbs 12:1: Whoever loves instruction loves knowledge, but he who hates correction is stupid.
Insight
To love (willingly accept or desire) discipline (“moral discipline or correction”) shows that a person loves (desires) knowledge. He wants to be on the right path, to be wise. To hate (reject and despise) correction shows that one is stupid (“to be brutish or dull-minded” like an animal; also used as “ignorant”). 1
Application
In 2 Thessalonians 2:9–10, Paul explains the terrible future and the eternal results for those who hate correction and rejected His loving truth. “The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.” The Bible gives us clear choices. Are you choosing to be smart, or to be stupid. That is what this Proverbs is asking. Blaming others is not an acceptable option for personal irresponsibilities.
Motivation
By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:35
