Proverbs 4:25–27: Let your eyes look straight ahead, and your eyelids look right before you. Ponder the path of your feet, and let all your ways be established. Do not turn to the right or the left; Remove your foot from evil.

Insight

“What is beyond my path?” The Hebrew word translated “ponder” means “to weigh” or “to make level.” It is related to a word that means “scales” (16:11). Paul wrote, “Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves” (2 Cor. 13:5). The Lord is weighing our ways (Prov. 5:21) and our hearts (21:2), as well as our actions (1 Sam. 2:3), and we had better do the same. Life is too short and too precious to be wasted on the temporary and the trivial. If we’re walking in the way of wisdom, God promises to protect our path, direct our path, and perfect our path. All folly can offer us is danger, detours, and disappointments, ultimately leading to death. It shouldn’t be too difficult to make the right choice! 1

Application

The examined life is a liberated life. The unexamined life is a lawless life. One produces the blessing of God, the other produces destruction. Read Matthew 5:3-10 and discover His blessing for your examined life. It is His Word, and obedience to His Word, that fulfills His holy examination.

Motivation

The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light. Matthew 6:22

When we live a life of accountability to Him, our ways will be established. – TWEET IT

Prayer

Father, it is a blessing to walk in the path that You have prepared for me.
