John 4:15–18: The woman said to Him, “Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor come here to draw.” Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come here.” The woman answered and said, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You have well said, ‘I have no husband,’ for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; in that you spoke truly.”
This is the master stroke. Although the water is available for all, there is a condition to be met—there must be a thirst, a need. She must, therefore, recognize that she is a sinner. So our Lord says to her, “Go call your husband.” That is a touchy subject. She becomes flippant again. She was accurate about that. She had had five husbands, but she didn’t have one then. She was living with a man in adultery. Our Lord insists that, when you come to Him, you must deal with sin. All secrets must come out before Him. Here was a sinner. One of the reasons she was not so popular with the women of the town was because she was too popular with the men of the town. The woman was actually shocked into reverence. 1
Your Word is Truth
Once you find yourself living in the presence of Jesus, it is best to be completely truthful with Him so He can clean your heart and give you a new start.

Your Will be Done
Lord, forgive me for only being partially truthful with You. Teach me to trust You with everything wrong about me. Only You can heal me completely.
