John 3:8–12: The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.” Nicodemus answered and said to Him, “How can these things be?” Jesus answered and said to him, “Are you the teacher of Israel, and do not know these things? Most assuredly, I say to you, We speak what We know and testify what We have seen, and you do not receive Our witness. If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things?
When Jesus used this symbol, Nicodemus should have readily remembered Ezekiel. The prophet saw a valley full of dead bones; but when he prophesied to the wind, the Spirit came and gave the bones life. Again, it was the combination of the Spirit of God and the Word of God that gave life. Nicodemus and his fellow council members were dead and hopeless; they needed the life of the Spirit. The new birth from above is a necessity, but it is also a mystery. Everyone who is born of the Spirit is like the wind: you cannot fully explain or predict either the wind or the child of God! 1
Your Word is Truth
Once you are born again, much of the mystery of life is revealed. His word becomes the living word for your soul. You become spiritually awakened, and you look at His creation with thanksgiving.
