2 Corinthians 13:1: This will be the third time I am coming to you. “By the mouth of two or three witnesses every word shall be established.”
In dealing with sin in a local church, we must have facts and not rumors. Paul quoted Deuteronomy 19:15, and we find parallels in Numbers 35:30 and Matthew 18:16. The presence of witnesses would help to guarantee the truth about a matter, especially when the church members were at such variance with one another. 1
Personal Application
- Read Matthew 18:15-20. Do you see the instruction from Jesus? The pastor and congregation must not get involved in a matter until the individuals involved have sincerely sought a solution. Will you handle things differently next time?
Godly Encouragement
- Do not receive an accusation against an elder except from two or three witnesses. –1 Timothy 5:19
