Psalm 119:50: This is my comfort in my affliction, for Your word has given me life.

Experiencing Jesus in the Psalms

Here is David’s experience of benefit by the word. As a means of his sanctification: “Thy word has quickened me. It made me alive when I was dead in sin; it has many a time made me lively when I was dead in duty; it has quickened me to that which is good when I was backward and averse to it, and it has quickened me in that which is good when I was cold and indifferent.” The word of God has much in it that speaks comfort in affliction; but those only may apply it to themselves who have experienced in some measure the quickening power of the word. 1

Living the Transformed Life

The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life. John 6:63

  • I have experienced the life-giving power of His Word…I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord. Psalm 27:13
  • I have experienced the life-giving power of His Word…The Lord is my strength and my shield; My heart trusted in Him, and I am helped; Therefore my heart greatly rejoices, and with my song I will praise Him. Psalm 28:7
  • I have experienced the life-giving power of His Word…Your words were found, and I ate them, And Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart; For I am called by Your name, O Lord God of hosts. Jeremiah 15:16

When you feast upon His Word, you will experience the power of His Word.

Praise and Prayer

Thank You, Father, for giving us Your Holy Word for holy living. Dear Jesus, please open my heart to receive Your Word with gladness, and with faith.
