Psalm 37:3: Trust in the Lord, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.
Experiencing Jesus in the Psalms
Trust in the Lord. Faith cures fretting. Doing good is a fine remedy for fretting. There is a joy in holy activity which drives away the rust of discontent. Thou shalt not wander in the wilderness of murmuring, but abide in the promised land of content and rest (Hebrews 4:3). Where there is heaven in the heart there will be heaven in the house. The good shepherd will exercise his pastoral care over all believers. In truth they will be fed, and fed on truth. The promise of God will be their perpetual banquet. Some read this as an exhortation, “Feed on truth”; certainly this is good cheer, and banishes forever the hungry heart-burnings of envy. 1
Living the Transformed Life
“Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Matthew 6:31–33
- Are you seeking Him, or are you seeking your sufficiency from people?
- Are you seeking Him, or are you seeking your sufficiency from performance?
- Are you seeking Him, or are you seeking your sufficiency from popularity?
The Shepherd who feeds you, is the Shepherd who will lead you. Trust Him.
Praise and Prayer
Thank You, Father, for the contentment that comes from dwelling with You. Dear Jesus, forgive me for trusting in me, instead of trusting in Thee.
