Psalm 30:1–2: I will extol You, O Lord, for You have lifted me up, and have not let my foes rejoice over me. O Lord my God, I cried out to You, and You healed me.

Experiencing Jesus in the Psalms

It is my belief, and the belief of many others, that David was once as sick as Hezekiah, and God raised him up. We have no record of what his sickness might have been, but these verses tell us that God healed him. I like this psalm because God did the same thing for me. In fact, I consider this my psalm, because after having cancer, the Lord has permitted me to live. “O Lord my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me.” Perhaps I should organize a chorus and call it “The Cancer Chorus,” of those folk all across the country who have been attacked by the awful monster of cancer and God has sustained them. 1

Living the Transformed Life

Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. James 5:14–15

  • Are you sick? Ask for prayer. Ask Jesus to heal you.
  • Are you downcast? Ask for prayer. Ask Jesus to lift you up above your circumstances.
  • Are you facing spiritual opposition? Ask for prayer. Ask Jesus to fight your battle and to lead you into victory.

Fear will defeat you every time, faith will release you every time.

Praise and Prayer

Thank You, Father, for being the One that saves, and the One that sustains. Dear Jesus, please teach me how to pray without ceasing.
