Psalm 23:5 (a): You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.

Experiencing Jesus in the Psalms

David affirms that God’s provisions for his guests are both constant and abundant.
The constancy of God’s provisions means that God’s people have them in every situation and circumstance. We have already noted that the saints of God have enemies in the hour of death. They have them all through life as well. These enemies are the world, the flesh and the devil.

Knowing about these enemies, David here subjects God’s care to what we might call the ultimate test. He asserts that God’s care cannot be negated or destroyed by these fierce enemies. David sees himself sitting at a banquet table while they gather all around. While they threaten and snarl, he feasts. Such is the care of God! 1

Living the Transformed Life

Oh, how great is Your goodness, Which You have laid up for those who fear You, Which You have prepared for those who trust in You. Psalm 31:19

  • Thank You for the day of salvation that You prepared before the world ever existed.
  • Thank You for the good works that You have prepared in advance for me to walk in.
  • Thank You for the continual fellowship at Your banqueting table, prepared to bless me and to shame my enemies.

The Lords vengeance may be the public recognition of His faithful servants, in the face of disgrace of those who criticized His appointed and anointed.

Praise and Prayer

Thank You, Father, that You are always in control and always prepared to pour forth Your blessing, upon Your children. Dear Jesus, please teach me to wait, to watch, and to proclaim the wonders of God.
