Jesus is Essential
John 21:18–19: Most assuredly, I say to you, when you were younger, you girded yourself and walked where you wished; but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will gird you and carry you where you do not wish.” This He spoke, signifying by what death he would glorify God. And when He had spoken this, He said to him, “Follow Me.”
I tell you the truth introduces a solemn prediction of Peter’s coming crucifixion. In old age Peter was tied to a cross and had his hands stretched out.
Obedience to Jesus’ command, Follow Me, is the key issue in every Christian’s life. As Jesus followed the Father’s will, so His disciples should follow their Lord whether the path leads to a cross or to some other difficult experience. 1
Walking with Jesus
A follower of Jesus is a lover of God. A lover of others. A lover of His Word. A lover of bearing fruit. A lover of a lifestyle of obedience. It is appointed for us to either die or to be raptured. Let’s not worry about our departure, but rather how we will live to glorify God in our words and deeds and devotions. Please follow Him, wherever He leads!
Yes, I think it is right, as long as I am in this tent, to stir you up by reminding you, knowing that shortly I must put off my tent, just as our Lord Jesus Christ showed me. 2 Peter 1:13–14
We will glorify God in life and in death, if we live each day to please Him.
Praying
Lord, thank You for calling me from unholy worldly living, to live a holy life for You alone.
