Jesus is Essential
Matthew 25:7–13: Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ But the wise answered, saying, ‘No, lest there should not be enough for us and you; but go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.’ And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding; and the door was shut. “Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open to us!’ But he answered and said, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, I do not know you.’ “Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.
When the bridegroom and bride appeared, half of the bridesmaids were unable to light their lamps because they had no oil. “Our lamps are going out!” they cried. The bridesmaids who had oil were able to light their lamps and keep them shining bright. It was they who entered into the wedding feast and not the foolish girls who had no oil. This suggests that not every professing Christian will enter heaven, for some really have not trusted Jesus Christ sincerely. Without the Spirit of God and the Word of God, there can be no true salvation. “Watch.” It means “to stay awake and be alert.” 1
Walking with Jesus
What is it that “lights you up?” Is it the excitement that the world has to offer, or is it your excitement over the coming of Jesus for you, and His Church? How do you really know if there is any “oil in your lamp” right now? The reason for His oil is for us to be a witness for Him on earth. Do people know that you belong to Him?
My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. John 10:27
Let the Holy Spirit be the outpouring oil of gladness for your weary soul.
Praying
Lord, fill me with your Holy Spirit, and make me dependent upon You for everything.
