Jesus is Essential
Matthew 24:36–39: “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only. But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.
Now, the days of Noah were characterized by gross immorality—every thought and imagination of man’s heart was only evil continually. In fact, they were living as though God did not exist. And in that future day, they will be right on the verge of the coming of Christ, and they will be living as though it will never take place. Also, the people of Noah’s day were “marrying and giving in marriage.”
Certainly our Lord is not saying that marriage is wrong. His point is that they rejected so completely God’s warning through Noah. They lived as though God did not exist. They did not believe that He would judge them and scorned the warning that a flood was imminent. “And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.” 1
Walking with Jesus
Many warning signs are being ignored within the church. It is not good to “run a red light,” and it is not good to “run your own life.” Both have deadly consequences. Are you ignoring obeying God’s Word? If you resist the authority of God’s appointed leaders, you are running a spiritual red light, and are in great danger. Remember, God will not be mocked. Ignored warnings have severe consequences. Instead, live life in the Spirit.
“Take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, & cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly. Luke 21:34
A rebellious attitude towards godly living resembles life before the flood.
