Romans 4:25: Who was delivered up because of our offenses, and was raised because of our justification.
Does Abraham live today? Yes—through the legacy of faith that he left all who are his descendants in faith. But as the pundit would say, there is “belief” and then there is “belief.” May the belief of the Abrahams and George Müllers in the kingdom become the belief of the rest of us as well. God is waiting for many more to step forward and take him at his word. 1
Christ’s death as God’s sacrificial Lamb (cf. John 1:29) was to pay the redemptive price for the sins of all people (Rom. 3:24) so that God might be free to forgive those who respond by faith to that provision. Christ’s resurrection was the proof (or demonstration and vindication) of God’s acceptance of Jesus’ sacrifice (cf. 1:4). Thus because He lives, God can credit His provided righteousness to the account of every person who responds by faith to that offer. 2
Application
- May our thanksgiving be in God, and in the grace He has supplied for our salvation from the penally and power of sin.
- Since you have been justified, never allow guilt to condemn you emotionally.
