Romans 12:13: Distributing to the needs of the saints.
Our care for brothers and sisters in Christ should reach down right into our wallets and purses and cost us. Paul presents this as a privilege rather than a sacrifice because the word “share” is one of our great Christian words, koinonia, which suggests a common sharing or fellowship. Love’s care is natural and right and joyful! When Christ’s Church is living in love, the needs of its people are met through sharing and caring. 1
Application
- We all have needs, but do you have a tendency to think that your needs are often more important than the needs of others?
- As you become aware of the needs of others, no one is asking you to provide everything. Sometimes it is just a few minutes, or a few hours, or a few prayers, or a few dollars. God usually just wants to know if you’re willing and able. Many times that is as far as it goes. It was really your heartfelt response towards God. He never used you to reach out, He just knew that you had surrendered your will and were willing if He gave the green light. That is where the true blessing is.

Lord, make me more of a giver.
