Discipleship Living

Access by Faith

Discipleship Living: Romans

Romans 5:2: Through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

“Peace with God” takes care of the past: He will no longer hold our sins against us. “Access to God” takes care of the present: we can come to Him at any time for the help we need. “Hope of the glory of God” takes care of the future: one day we shall share in His glory! 1

Catch the force of Paul’s words—“we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God.” The word “rejoice” (kaukaomai) means to boast in the sense of jubilation—exultant rejoicing—to shout about it! We used to fall short of the glory of God (3:23), but now we boast in it! This sets us apart from the rest of the world. The Eastern religions offer no hope with their endless nightmare of reincarnations. Existentialists see the future as absurd. Evolutionists have no comfort. We Christians “rejoice in the hope of the glory of God” 2

Application

Prayer

Lord, forgive me for not scheduling more meetings with You. Forgive me for not treating You as a person of priority in my life. Thank You for giving me more grace when I gave You little love.
