Discipleship Living

A Spiritual Stupor

Discipleship Living: Romans

Romans 11:7–10: What then? Israel has not obtained what it seeks; but the elect have obtained it, and the rest were blinded. Just as it is written: “God has given them a spirit of stupor, Eyes that they should not see And ears that they should not hear, To this very day.” And David says: “Let their table become a snare and a trap, A stumbling block and a recompense to them. Let their eyes be darkened, so that they do not see, And bow down their back always.”

Did they fail to come to Christ because they had been blinded? No. They had been exposed to the gospel as no other people have been exposed to it. Now they are blinded because they would not accept the light He gave them. When a man rejects, he becomes the most difficult to reach with the grace of God. God gives light in order that men might see, but if they are blind, they will not see. The light reveals the blindness of multitudes today. I am amazed that so many intelligent people do not seem to understand what the Bible is all about. 1

Application

Prayer

Lord, I love that song: “I want to see Jesus.” Please keep me in Your light.
