Jesus and His Word
This letter was addressed, as were other letters, to the angel or messenger of the church, which was probably the one we would call the pastor. “These things saith he which hath the sharp sword with two edges” means the Word of God. The Word of God has the answer to man’s need and man’s sin, which in Pergamum was false religion. It was a city that emphasized religion, and the only way it could be reached would be by the Word of God. 1

- Jesus, thank You for Your Word that speaks the truth about all matters of life and Your Word works the work of God in us and through us. – “For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe.” 1 Thessalonians 2:13
