Perseverance

Discipleship Living: Proverbs

Proverbs 24:10: If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small.

Insight

It is the hour of trial that manifests whatever strength one really has. To faint, or become disheartened then, is to show that one has not been truly counting upon God for deliverance. The hour of trial and opposition will only find the trusting soul more confident still, for he knows where the source of all power is to be found. 1

Application

Now David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and his daughters. But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God. 1 Samuel 30:6

In the hour of trial in your life, how have you been able to strengthen yourself in the Lord? How can you encourage a friend to find strength in the Lord today?

Motivation

But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us. We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed—always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body. 2 Corinthians 4:7–10

Prayer

Father, thank You for sustaining me when I was without strength to continue.
