Contentment

Discipleship Living: Proverbs

Proverbs 24:19–20: Do not fret because of evildoers, nor be envious of the wicked; For there will be no prospect for the evil man; The lamp of the wicked will be put out.

Insight

Fretting over what sinners have and do and wanting to join them is wrong because they have no future hope. They will die. The righteous and wise, on the other hand, do have hope for the future. Evil and wicked are used as synonyms in both verses 19 and 20. 1

Application

Power communicated something very powerful to his young disciple in 1 Timothy 6:6: “Now godliness with contentment is great gain.”

Notice how our true spiritual life is measured by God. He looks at our level of contentment in every situation. Are you content or are you envious for the things that others have. Do you wish you had their possessions, or position, or opportunities or extra free time? Are you envious or are you thankful? Are there any changes that you would like to make this week?

Motivation

The light of the righteous rejoices, But the lamp of the wicked will be put out. Proverbs 13:9

The more thankful we are, the more it reveals our faith in the sovereignty of God. – TWEET IT

Prayer

Father, thank You for always providing all the I need, all the time.
