Psalm 34:18: The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves such as have a contrite spirit.
Experiencing Jesus in the Psalms
The Lord is near unto them that are of a broken heart. Near in friendship to accept and console. Broken hearts think God is far away, when he is really most near to them; their eyes are held so that they see not their best friend. And saves such as be of a contrite spirit. What a blessed token for good is a repentant, mourning heart! Just when the sinner condemns himself, the Lord graciously absolves him. Salvation is linked with contrition. 1
Living the Transformed Life
He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:3
- Is your heart broken over your sin? Jesus is near, for forgiveness, cleansing, and restoration.
- Is your heart broken over the sins of others? Jesus is near, to comfort, encourage, and renew your hope and purposes for living.
- Is your heart broken over the sins of a nation? Jesus is near, to teach you how to intercede in prayer, to speak forth in truth, and to move forward with righteous convictions.
A broken heart will become a blessed heart, when Jesus is your closest friend.
Praise and Prayer
Thank You, Father, for healing my brokenness and forgiving all my sins. Dear Jesus, please keep my heart from wandering. Please keep me near to you, and far from worldliness.
