Psalm 139:8–10: If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there Your hand shall lead me, and Your right hand shall hold me.
Experiencing Jesus in the Psalms
Hypothetical examples of where David might try to escape are given here. He first asserted that the Lord is present in the heavens above and in hell below. These opposites signify that all areas in between are also in the Lord’s presence. Moreover, if he could fly at the speed of light (the wings of the dawn) from the east across the sky to the west (far side of the Mediterranean Sea) he could not escape from the Lord. God’s presence then began to take on a new meaning for the psalmist, the light were dawning on him. He stated, the hand of the Lord would lead and comfort him. 1
Living the Transformed Life
“For His eyes are on the ways of man, And He sees all his steps. Job 34:21
- The best place to hide is behind the One who is leading you. – My soul follows close behind You; Your right hand upholds me. Psalm 63:8
- The best place to hide is with the One who will never leave you. – Nevertheless I am continually with You; You hold me by my right hand. Psalm 73:23
- The best place to hide is with the One who will help you overcome your persistent fears. – For I, the Lord your God, will hold your right hand, Saying to you, ‘Fear not, I will help you.’ Isaiah 41:13
When He is Your hiding place, hide yourself in Him.

Thank-You, Father, for being in those dark, and lonely, and fearful places, with me. Dear Jesus, thank You for being my refuge and my strength and my hiding place.
