2 Corinthians 3:15–16: But even to this day, when Moses is read, a veil lies on their heart. Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.
So Paul declares, “But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed” (v. 16). Do you remember when the veil was lifted by Christ from your heart? It happened to me on the very day I believed as I read Romans 10:9, 10: “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.” As I read this, it was as if the words lifted from the page and streamed up through my eyes and into my heart. That night other texts, before incomprehensible, were filled with light. The half-century old red pencil markings on the India paper pages of my tiny Bible testify to the veil’s lifting. And over the years I have come to see the Messiah ever more clearly as the central theme and coming consummation of all of Scripture.
Has the veil been removed from your heart? Have the Scriptures become alive? Does Christ make sense to you? Or perhaps this is just beginning to happen to you. Then pray, asking Christ to strip away the veil. If you do, I can promise you, on the basis of God’s Word, that he will. 1
