Romans 16:6: Greet Mary, who labored much for us.

Mary is a Jewish name, the same as Miriam, meaning “rebelliousness.” She “bestowed much labour on us” means that she labored to the point of exhaustion. What a change had taken place in her life! Before becoming a believer, she was in rebellion, but now she “knocks herself out” for the sake of other believers, because she is now obedient to Christ. 1

Application

  • Your name has changed to Christian, meaning a follower of Christ. Do you live out your new name?
  • Read Philippians 3:13-14. Do you labor to the point of exhaustion for others, without complaining?

Prayer

Lord, teach me to live up to the new name You gave me: Christian!
