Proverbs 22:2: The rich and the poor have this in common, The Lord is the maker of them all.

Insight

The poor are mentioned several times in this chapter. A person may acquire wealth but that does not completely separate him from the poor, for both are creatures whose Maker is the Lord. God therefore is concerned about everyone, regardless of their economic status. 1

Application

Notice the compassionate wisdom of Proverbs 14:3: He who oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker, but he who honors Him has mercy on the needy.

How much of your personal pursuits are about improving your own economic position? How much time and energy and income do you dedicate towards those who may never enjoy the opportunities that God has blessed you with? Have you discovered how enjoyable it is to spend time with all members of the Body of Christ? Are you giving Christian fellowship the same priority that God gives it? Guard your heart from becoming content with “having my few Christian friends, and no more.”

Motivation

Yet He is not partial to princes, nor does He regard the rich more than the poor; For they are all the work of His hands. Job 34:19

It is better to be moved with compassion than to be moved with criticism. – TWEET IT

Prayer

Father, please teach me how to love people the way that You love them.
