Proverbs 29:23: A man’s pride will bring him low, but the humble in spirit will retain honor.

Insight

Humility is indeed true greatness. It is “the crown of finite beings, made and jeweled by the hand of God himself. Supremacy is the glory of God; humility is the ornament of his child.” 1

Application

The king spoke, saying, “Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for a royal dwelling by my mighty power and for the honor of my majesty?” While the word was still in the king’s mouth, a voice fell from heaven: “King Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is spoken: the kingdom has departed from you! And they shall drive you from men, and your dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field. They shall make you eat grass like oxen; and seven times shall pass over you, until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He chooses.” Daniel 4:30–32

If you refuse the wisdom of God, He will allow you to experience the full consequences of your decisions until you are ready to humbly receive His mercy, and live your life under His Lordship.

Motivation

And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted. Matthew 23:12
